 Of all the races pejoratively termed 'greenskins' by overworlders,
 the goblins best fit that description - most are easily distinguished
 by the bright green pigment of their skin. The rare white or grey goblin
 can still be identified by its slight frame and telltale goblin nose,
 half as long as the face that supports it, always hooking downward
 slightly, like the claw of a rat. Goblins are not much to look at, nor
 are they particularly fierce. Yet for centuries they have survived, even
 flourished, alongside some of the world's most warlike and barbaric races.
 The keys to their survival are a shrewd resourcefulness, a facility for
 adapting to all manner of situation and conversation, and an amoral
 ambition that drives them to seek advantage at every turn, at any cost.

 Goblins crave wealth and material gain, and have a wide repertoire of
 skills at their disposal for that very purpose. In spite of their
 repellent looks, they have an eccentric charm and a knack for ingratiating
 themselves with beings from all walks of life, be they civilized lords
 or loutish criminals. Goblins are frenetic creatures, quick of mind, tongue,
 finger and foot. And while they make friends easily, they seldom keep
 them for long. For they are unscrupulous and compulsive manipulators who
 invariably betray all careless enough to yield their trust.
