THE NEWBIE GUIDE: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |_|
--------------------------------------------
Below is a small collection of questions which have been often seen on
the newbie channel. More will be added over time as they are asked.
WHY DON'T THINGS DIE EASILY WHEN I TYPE 'kill frog'?
----------------------------------------------------
Unlike many automated combat muds, on ZombieMUD all combat is hand
controlled by you! If you wish to kill something easily, you must
use the skills and spells you have learned upon the poor beast.
Simple melee combat alone will do damage, but it is nothing compared
to that which you will do with your skills and spells.
NOTE: Typing things like 'kick frog' only produces an emotion!
Read below on skill usage for more information.
HOW DO I CAST A SPELL?
---------------------
Type: cast spellname at targetname
Don't forget the at. ZombieMUD likes proper english when it comes
to spellcasting. Read the helpfile 'help spellcasting' for more
intricate details.
Typing 'spells' will list the spells you already know, and if you
wish to learn more, simply travel to your guild hall and 'study'
anything you wish from the list you see by typing 'list spells'.
HOW DO I USE A SKILL?
--------------------
Type: use skillname at targetname
Reading 'help use' will give you more information on the details of
skillcraft and other ways to use skills.
Typing 'skills' will list the skills you already know, and if you
wish to learn more, simply travel to your guild hall and 'train'
anything you wish from the list you see by typing 'list skills'.
HOW DO I TARGET/PICK UP THE SECOND ITEM IN A ROOM?
-------------------------------------------------
If there are multiples of anything in the room with you or in your
inventory, simply target them by adding a number to the command.
For example:
use kick at frog 2
get beer 4
get ring 4 from corpse
put sword 3 in bag
drop torch 10
look at rat 2
HOW DO I SEE WHAT SPELLS HAVE BEEN CAST ON ME?
---------------------------------------------
While on some games, a simple command may display this, on ZombieMUD
many things depend upon interaction with our rather large playerbase.
This is one such thing. To know exactly what has been cast upon you
on the game, you will need to have the spell 'aura detection' cast
upon you by an Abjurer. On the other hand, many players also create
elaborate trig-sets within TF or Zmud to also keep track of such
spell and skillcraft upon their own characters.
HOW DO I KNOW HOW FAR I AM FROM THE NEXT LEVEL?
----------------------------------------------
On ZombieMUD, your experience earned while playing does not force
you to auto-level at certain incriments of gain. Instead, all exp
you earn through quests, killing, or exploring goes to a pool seen
with the 'exp' command on your character. This exp can then be spent
upon anything you choose to spend it upon, and not just what the
game would choose for you.
To see how much exp you would need to advance a level, simply go
to the Adv-guild and type 'cost' and 'costs'. Alternatly you could
set a field in your prompt to automatically calculate this number
for you ('help prompt').
Remember that there are two sets of levels here. One for your main
player level, and one set which you raise to advance within the
guilds. Read 'help levels' and 'help advancing' for details.
HOW DO I GET COLOUR?
-------------------
Type: term ansi+
set color_map on
See the file 'help colour' for details.
MY AUTOMAP IS GONE, HOW DO I GET IT BACK?
----------------------------------------
You were toggled into brief mode. Type 'brief' to toggle it back.
HOW DO I FLEE FROM A BATTLE?
---------------------------
Just walk away. It's that simple. Read 'help flee' for details.
HOW DO I REPLAY A CHANNEL, JOIN A CHANNEL, OR TURN A CHANNEL OFF?
----------------------------------------------------------------
The command 'last' is used to replay an messages on the game. You can
'last' any channel, say, tell, shout, whisper, and info.
To turn a channel on: on channelname
To turn a channel off: off channelname
For more information read 'help channels'.
WHAT DOES 'You are far too weak to attack other players.' MEAN?
--------------------------------------------------------------
This means that the last thing you tried to kill was either a player, or
controlled by a player. For your own protection, you cannot attack other
players or their minions until you have grown enough within the game.
If you are a ranger, and you see this message when you attempt to
kick a cat or a wolf, you should realise that you are trying to kill
your own pet! Try then to target 'cat 2' in the room instead.
HOW DO I RESTART THE GAME?
--------------------------
There is no 'delete' command on ZombieMUD, for we have a much less
painful way of restarting a character and keeping your name: Reinc!
If you wish to rechoose your race and guild, read 'help reincarnation'
for an explaination of everything a reinc entails, as well as just how
to go about getting one.
WHAT DO THE DIFFERENT BRACKETS ON CHANNELS MEAN?
-----------------------------------------------
[mud] indicates a normal player, {mud} is a race leader and lastly
the brackets <mud> indicate that the person is a wizard.
I CAN'T PICK ANYTHING UP!
------------------------
Some things simply can't be gotten, and sometimes an item is just
too heavy for you to physically carry. But should you ever manage
to be carrying negative weight, typing fix_weight will promptly
remedy that ailment.
HOW DO I SET MY BEST SOLO/PARTY KILL?
------------------------------------
Type 'kset solo' and 'kset party' respectivly. If you finger yourself
(finger name), you will see the chosen kill displayed.
WHAT KIND OF GAME IS ZOMBIE?
---------------------------
ZombieMUD is an LPC based mud running the one and only ZombieLib under
an LDmud driver. We are a non-profit organization, and are not affiliated
with any commercial company. The game is run and made available to you
simply for the fun of having it!
